Using the Bench Notes

You may share a Public Bench Note freely, whole and unaltered, with attribution to speybench.com. Linking is always welcome, and a note’s address leads to its current revision. Short quotations with attribution need no permission.

For anything else, such as a translation or an adapted version, ask first.

Nikon

Nikon, Nikon F and F2 are trademarks of Nikon Corporation. They are used here to say which cameras the bench works on and which the notes describe. SpeyBench is independent, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nikon.

The Bench Notes draw on Nikon’s repair manuals and cite them by page. Part numbers and names are given so that a part can be identified. No figures, tables or text from the manuals are reproduced.

What a Bench Note is, and is not

A Public Bench Note is a researched technical reference. Each statement is marked with where it comes from, each note carries a revision letter and the month it was issued, and what is not yet established is said to be so. Care is taken to get them right, and corrections are recorded, not hidden.

That is not a guarantee. A source mark shows where a statement comes from, not that it is correct. Cameras of the same model differ with age, wear and earlier repair, and a note may be wrong, or may not fit the camera in front of you.

The notes are technical references, not a substitute for the repair manual, appropriate tools, judgement or experience. If you work on your own camera you do so at your own risk, and SpeyBench is not responsible for damage that follows. Nothing on this site limits any liability that the law does not allow to be limited.

If you find an error, write to service@speybench.com.

Servicing

The bench is not yet accepting cameras, and nothing on this site is an offer to service one. There are no servicing terms here because there is nothing yet for them to govern. They will be given before any camera is accepted.
